Unhappy IMRC Where the hell is it!

I have a 99 with 4.2 V6 that has a IMRC that has gone bad. the dealer only wants 700 to fix it. I have the part in hand, but am having difficulty finding it on the engine. Anyone have any clues? I know this is funny but, I am getting desperate!

thanks
Stoopid backyard mechanic!

I'm pretty sure those are in the back, behind the manifold by the firewall..

The Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) is an integral part of the Intake Manifold. Frequently they just get gummed up and stick open or closed. I have cleaned up the mechanism on a 3.0L Taurus and a 2.5L Contour. I am not familiar with your particular engine so I cannot offer any "how to" advice in your case. Also, the problem may be with the control or actuator circuits involved. It may require a little troubleshooting to determine the exact failure mode. At any rate $700 sounds real steep to me for something I could do for a few bucks (especially if it only requires cleaning).

thanks for the info! It looks as if the whole Intake manifold will have to be removed to do the job though. When you said clean up are you talking about the IMRC itself?

I am having the same problem and wondering if there is another way to clean it out without taking the intake manifold off.

Angry No such luck!

No such luck! I got mine fixed today by a local wrench tuner. It cost me $200 not including the IMRC control. From the location of the control he told me the only way to get to it was to take the intake off. After the $700 dealer sticker price, I said whatever it takes! I just hope the dreaded light doesn't come back on. One piece of advice he did give me was that most of the time the clips come off or the part gets dirty and just needs cleaning and new clips. That's $5.00 worth of clips, but you still have to pull the manifold to get to them.

Wrong! That's about $0.25 worth of clips that Ford sells for $5.00. I know, I replaced the clips myself. I couldn't believe the price.
