plain & simple.......the 5.4 was designed to run 5w-20, the timing chain tension adjuster on the 5.4 is activated by the viscosity of the 5w-20 oil, among other important things in this modern modular v-8, it's your engine & your vehicle.........
The 5.4 originally used 5W-30. It was changed to 5W-20 in 2001 to get some more CAFE points. 5W-30 would be fine.

Not saying that it is bad oil or anything but I prefer the 5W-30 that I use...

And I'll say again I would like to see it in writing...That certain parts of the engine distinguish between say 5W- 28 which is what Castrol maps out to be and the 5W-32 that the oil that I use maps out to be....

Ford also recommends the Ford stock muffler....Which, like myself, have swapped it out for a Magnaflow...Which added about 1MPG to my gas mileage thus far
Look in YOUR TRUCK manual. Look at the oil fill cap(it will say the weight to use). Look at ANY spec sheet for Ford trucks. Use what you want to use, but KNOW you are NOT doing what you should do to have a warranty. It you prefer a different weight go for it, the builders and engineers that built your motor disagree with you. But I am sure you know more than them about your engine....*snicker*

Its up to you what you use because now these days yes they are different weight and all but most oils these days are close to each other so not a big difference will happen but yes some differences will occur.

Yes, because we all know how many engines have blown up and the warranty voided because of the use of 5W-30 over the 5W-20. *snicker*

You know Ive heard of that too, but Ford is doin a real good job of hidin it from the whole country. I put 4 qts of 5W30 and 3 of 5W20 in mine, I expect complete engine destruction within a week.

Look at your gas cap it says use BP gasoline ..... I guess I am out of warranty ..

All I said was to show me in writing where it says the motor is engineered for "specifically for 5W-20?

If they back spec an engine that they originally recommended 5w-30 to 5W-20 does that mean the engine was engineered for 5W-30? Sorry that should tell you something right there....

I hope you understand that we are not talking about a whole lot of difference between a 5W-20 and an energy conserving 5W-30...

The only thing it means is that it they have engineered a heavy 20wt rated for severe service which isn't much different than a thin 30wt rated the same....

As far as being out of warranty....My first oil change was at the Ford dealership....They used Quaker State Premium 5W-30 at 3500Miles in January 2006....Hmmmmm Well I guess it should blow anytime now
