navigator motor
navigator motor
Hello everyone, i new here i have seen this website and decide to make a account, well i have a 02 supercrew 4.6 with 150,000 miles on it, im about to rebuild a motor for it and wanted to ask if a navigator motor (32valves) will be a good motor, with forged internals and ported heads. What do ya think
I too have this same swap up my sleeve bit in a supercab.
#1: you need to use the F-150 oil pan (frame clearance issues)
#2: the wiring harness will plug into the firewall but you need to retain your ECM for what ever transmission you use (the 4r70 or 4r100).
#3: I suggest changing out the navigator cams (comp cams recomends the 106060 if you are using an essentially stock engine: intake heads, exhaust injectors, maf, etc...) if you are porting the heads and consider swapping in the sullivan performance intake for the navigator factory one http://www.sullivanperformance.com/Y.../intake5.4.htm
http://www.sullivanperformance.com/Y.../tbadapter.htm
yeah there's a bit more to the intake swap than just bolt it on and drive it away (fuel rails, fuel lines, alternator relocation etc...) so if you don't have time or patience to wait then go ahead and use the navi intake or an '03 mercury marauder intake with the spacers http://www.reichardracing.com/46to54adapter.php but with the navigator intake you can use a lightning after market single blade throttle body
#4: i was hoping to use midlength headers from a mustang but i am unsure of the proper fit so if you want to use the navigator manifolds grab a navi mid-pipe as well.
#5: the 32 valve navigator already has a forged crank so just get some H-beam lightning rods and you'll be good to go.
#6: you'll need a tune to make this run right
mike dunn allready swapped 32 valve heads onto his supercab 5.4 engine but he switched from the eaton to a whipple charger (see link below) and he has one of the nicest built street driven trucks ever. He has answered all my questions lighting fast no charge, thanks mike, each and everytime and his knowledge seems unstoppable. (I even picked up a couple parts for one of my trucks from him and he a good guy to do business with)

I have everything listed for parts needed to do this swap (except the
wife's approval
) PM me if you need it inlcuding the parts i plan to use. Good luck and remember the 32 valve will make "less torque" but I guarantee the higher RPM power will surpass your expectations just look at the blackwood 1/4 mile times VS a king ranch F-150 2 wheel drive...

That'sa good swap, one that's really worth the effort . The Nav's sort of a Cobra based motor and one I plan to aquire when a deal presents itself - there out there , I've seen them come and go on eBay and carpart.com.
The 4r100w Modified (lightning trans) or The Monster in a box trans would be an awesome matchup

I 've found two Navi motors , ones a 98 motor and ones 04 .
One of you guys should know SOHC OR DOHC . I was under the impression that the Lincoln motor was a DOHC motor, theres very limited info on the adds. Well both here say SOHC and are rather cheap - 2grand or so .. What is ideal for my 98?

get the DOHC
if the '04 is a dohc that's the one you want, the SOHC is just a regular f-150 5.4. and the same as any ole F-150 w/ a 5.4
the '03-'04 are the better DOHC engine due to better flowing heads

That's what I thought , I didn't realize before that both engines were offered in the Lincoln and hoping for a typo on there part - no such luck ...
Thanx for the reply and the info

Yeah , if theres a line to be drawn here , I know where it goes..
Besides I would rather invest in the f150 diesel if it ever gets here and build the 98 as a hobby ..
Just buying that motor would take to much fun out of it all..
