I belive the lightning block is aluminum and the 2005 block is cast Iron. other differences are forged pistons and a forged crank in the lightning.

The Lightning (and HD) block are not aluminum.
The 5.4 GT block is but very pricey.

You might want to consider the 4v Lincoln Navigator heads as they flow very well.

Cool

HI!... "97" - "02" 5.4 blocks are all the same. In 2003 FORD went to a NVH block which has 18LBS more material in it to make it stronger. It's just beefier, but has all the same internal dimensions as all the 5.4 cast iron blocks.

whipple for a 3v? i dont follow the 3v scene much but uh. that leaves some intake parts other than the SC being needed doesnt it? like intake manifold, IC?

ok heres what i want to do. i think i did not exsplain my self right. i have a 2005 f150 with a whipple on it. i just want to buy a short block this winter from lets say jlp (jlp only specifies the lightning 5.4 short block) i want the jlp short block and a set of decent 3v heads for that block. i just want to have some peace of mind. i have big plans for my truck. im new to the whole truck sceen. i would just rather buy a short block from the pros than have some mechanic build mine. make sence now.

yes yes it does... JLP is a good build, pricey imo. also have you considered sending your 3v heads off to be port n polished?

go forged bottom end and your good within a reason... i think 750 hp crank is the margin where you start to double check your build
