fixing idle

For the last few months my truck has been idling at around 1000RPM on start up and never really going down unless I drove for 15 mins or more. I've read a few times that you can take off the IAC and wash it with brake or throttle body cleaner and then spray w40 in it and also clean the throttle body intake. So I did that and its not idling any different, though I do have more power at full throttle now. Do I need to take of the entire throttle body and clean it all out real well?

Have checked your EGR for carbon build up inside? Yes, a good cleaning of the throttle body would be good but probably not much to do with your high idle problem.

this is going to sound really stupid, and for that I'm sorry. But where is the EGR and how do I clean it?

okay well I just cleaned out the EGR (was hell getting off). I think it's maybe clogged? When I sprayed into the hole that the exhaust side goes into, it just filled up, instead going into the side that the intake connects to. I sprayed forever and let it soak and everything but it never opened up for me.

It should be closed Jeff - it opens when your motors running along with the vac system - you can work the valve by hand if it's off the truck , but be carefull not to damage it .. - use something blunt just to see if the valve moves freely . Theres really no way to clean it well enough to get it working again - if it failed.

Have you done any mods to your intake recently ?

oh I didnt know it wasnt supposed to open. no mods yet, just a new air filter. When I got it, it idled at 600. After a few weeks it would sit at 1000 unless I drove for a long time, but never went back to 600. Now it goes to 600 after about 15 minutes, after all the cleaning I mentioned. Its not running bad or anything...just want it to run the way its supposed to I guess.

Follow that line that goes from your pvc valve to the back of your motor - make sure it's not leaking at the 90 degree elbow . (back by the firewall in this pic) -

Clean your MAF sensor -
