You need to find some different 'guys'. :D The oil world (and these engines) has changed. A LOT. Please check out some of the myriad oil threads in this section ...good readin' |
20W50 won't hurt it. Neither will JD Plus 50. Neither will 15W40. Neither will 10W40. Neither will 10W30. Neither will 5W30.

If you are using 5W30 Motorcraft oil and filter, that's what the factory recommends for your engine under all operating conditions and there's no reason to use anything different. You can if you want to though but I personally prefer to follow manufacturer's recommendations.

(FWIW, Ford has rated their 5W20 Synthetic Blend to replace just about every oil weight recommended since the mid-80s. There are a few exceptions, but the F-150 is not one of them) -Joe |

Unless your buddies know something about your engine that the powertrain engineers that designed, tested, and built it overlooked, I'd suggest sticking with the OEM recommended 5W30.

I'd just stick with the 5w30.... ;)

Either 5W-20 semi-synthetic or any brand/type of 5W-30.
