Ok guys I have searched but I am still somewhat confussed. My friends 98 f-150 5.4 blew a plug today. He wants to just replace the engine, but he wants a little more power so we were thinking about this motor

The 5.4 HO.
So the question is what will have to be changed to do this. I dont have his vin right now if its needed I can get it tomorrow.

From the description, looks like the same basic engine. If you just bolt the factory intake, etc on it probably wont make the advertised HP.

Also you have non-pi heads. I dont remember if there is a difference between the non-pi intake and the pi-intake on the 5.4. Something you should be able to ask the seller.

Custom computer tune, headers, exhaust, etc will help bring the engine to its full power potential.

im pretty sure the pi heads require pi intake manifold.

my honest opinion... screw the crate engine, rebuild it the way you want it. probably get more out of it for the same price.

i mean open up the heads and replace the bottom end, with all new stud kits and gaskets, for a little bit more than that price. but the quality and power will likely surpass that by a significant amount.
