GAS HOG!! If you think the 5.4 sucks up gas wait until you get that motor.

I've got one in an E350 van. properly maintained you will see about 12 mpg around town, and 15-17 on the highway. I've gotten that with the van loaded w/ family (6 kids), gear, traveling at 70 mph up and down hills going to NH.

Not doing that well these days - needs a tune up.

But, you will love the power! Man, I wish my 03 Ex had that motor and tranny. I thought driving a big van would be like driving a whale (it is sorta), but with a rocket in the pocket! That thing will absolutely take off from a start, and will easily accellerate going up hill while at cruising speed. Plenty of power for carrying weight and pulling stuff.

My question to you is: What vehicle are you planning on putting that engine in?

It's simply a 5.4L block with two more cylinders on the end.

Check the superduty section for all the 6.8L discussions. But not more than a gas hog compared to a 5.4L as it doesn't have to work as hard to do the same job.

I'm looking at putting it into a 1977 XC Coupe (Australian) with 5 or 6 speed manual tranny. Replacing complete engine management with after market. Hoping to get between 5 and 600 streetable bhp and whatever torque comes with that package.

Also what angle is the V? Is it the same as windsor or cleveland? Will it fit in a car?

The v-10 is a great engine, and lots of power. Gas wise, it sucks a bit but in an F-350 4X4 supercab with a dually and about a 4.33 gear, she got about 12 mpg and maybe on occasion 14 at very best. It's not really that bad, but since the gas goes and stays up, anything more than a lawnmower sucks on gas. Grab the engine and do something with it, good engine.

I am not to concerned about "gas hog" as it will not get out all that often.we pay about $A 5.50 / gal.I will change the management system so i can tune it with a laptop. but i do need to know how wide it is, what bell housing it takes and weather after market / performance parts are available.

It will be a tight fit in any car. It is a 90 deg. V design like other V-8's. But it is very long. Do some searching and you will find that ford put one into a mustang for fun. It is doable and you can get some really good hp numbers with it pretty easily. Have fun and take pics!!
