I was reading my owners manual Its saying run 5-20 premium synthetic blend motor oil. I been using regular 5/20 motor oil. I hope i didn't cause any problems. Am I only idiot running wrong stuff. Not sure what to do now. I'm thinking switching to royal purple oil.

 

My truck has had 5-20 Quaker State dino oil since new and no problems..

 

You didn't hurt anything. Just use MotorCradt 5w20 next time. Save money, don't bother with the other brands. That's all the factory calls for.
WalMart $2.40 a qt. It's the blend that's called for.
Use MC filters.
MC oil blends are produces for a hydrocracking process I don't think other venders use.

 

Find a 5-20 blend you like and stick with it. Change it regularly and keep up with the other maintenance items and you'll be doing as much as possible to keep it running for a long time. I think switching between different oils can cause problems down the road. Synthetic is not a must.
This is directly from Ford's F150 manual:
"To protect your engine’s warranty use Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 or an
equivalent SAE 5W-20 oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A.
SAE 5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel economy and durability
performance meeting all requirements for your vehicle’s engine.
Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, cleaners or other engine
treatments. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that
is not covered by Ford warranty."
If you're really worried, just make sure whatever brand you use meets Ford's spec WSS-M2C930-A

 

Ive been using Mobile 1 Full Synthetic. Love the stuff and my truck runs noticably quieter than the MC oil.

 

Ford has changed their oils all to Syn. Blend now5w20, 5w30 ,10w30. So it will be alittle $$ but better oil.

I'm going to switch to a blend from now on. I always used pennzoil from day one from the time I got my first car at age of 17 yrs old I'm 36 now, and never had a problem. I wonder if pennzoil has a blend or full synthetic oil.

 

All oils out there today are a blend of some kind if it is a multiviscosity oil. Fords spec 930 is all you need for your engine. That spec limits the amount of high heat deposits, limits the viscosity range change over the life of the oil, and limits oxidation. There will be no "full" synthetic that will exceed this spec that will be of any benefit. Almost all of the oils today are hydrocracked regardless of brand or cost. Hydrocracking is a common process these days. Severe hydrocracking or isomerization is becoming more popular as well. These are the basestocks which make up the blends. Gp III synthetics, commonly called dino synthetics, are now in most "full" synthetic oils and in all of the major brands "full" synthetics. Some oils, like Havoline, Chevron Supreme, Trop Artic, Pennzoil, don't advertize their products as blends or synthetics but it's in the bottle. Just look for the best price on an oil that meets the 930 spec and know you have the best oil for your engine. You can pay more, but you won't be getting more.

 

at the beginning of the manufacturing process all synthetic base stocks start out as crude oil.

 

I run Valvoline in my 5.4 and haven't had a problem yet, I would love to go to regular Motorcraft oil but I can't find a Wal-Mart that stocks 5w-20, they have the space but no oil on the shelf.

 

In that case, find a manager and bitch about it not being there... If he/she is a good one, they'll make sure it gets stocked, or at least the pricing label gets taken off the shelf.

 

I just purchased fully synthetic pennzoil 5w20 with motorcraft oil filter, and fuel filter. Now I have to find a thread saying how to install fuel filter. I figure I can go 5000 miles instead of 3000 miles on one oil change since theres only 9500 miles on the truck since new June 05. Thats only one oil change once a year, or should I change it more often due to moisture gets in oil.

 

Change it according to Ford's mileage/time recommendations or you may void the warranty.
