Question What Octane do you use?

Hey I was just wondering what kind of fuel you guys put in your trucks. I started going to 91 but heard the ethanol in it is bad for your engine, can anyone confirm this with technical logic not just stories. Cuz as I've found out every engine seems to have a different personality. thanks,

87 is what these engines are made to run on. Higher octane actually burns at a lower temperature. Unless you put in cooler plugs, are experiencing spark knock, or have a tune that requires higher octane, your just throwing money away.

I try to find 93 octane as much as possible. If not, 91 will do. My truck is tuned for premium.

93 octane...I use it for my 93 octane X Cal 2 tune...it performs so much better than the 87 octane tune...

thanks alot guys, sounds like I can go back to 87 with no problems, and start saving for some new tires.

I run the 87 octane on Edge level 2 unless I am going on a trip, then I go with 93 octane and Level 3. I keep extensive mileage records and discovered a long time ago that the brand makes a difference. I used to think gas was gas, but in the area, I get better mileage with Shell, then Conoco, then Exxon. The Exxon is not much better than the non-branded. The 10% ethanol will not hyrt your engine, but it is not as efficient and your gas mileage will suffer. If you are interested enough, try different brands and keep a record of miles driven, gals used and average. I have an Excel spreadsheet with every purchase for about 40,000 miles on my truck. Has notes on type of driving etc. Some interesting things came to light.

87 is fine. Ethanol will lower your mileage slightly and there is a higher incidence of fuel injector failure.
