I had nothing but problems with the OEM plugs in my '97 SCab 4.6L. I couldn't go 6K miles without a Motorcraft plug blowing out. The dealer would put in a new Motorcraft plug, and it'd blow too. What's even worse is that they are not plated on the outside, so they rust into dust! I installed a set of cheap Bosch platinum plugs and went another 100,000 miles, no more plugs blown. Never gonna be able to convince me the OEM plugs are all that great.

There are a couple threads in the '04-up forum... They're hard to get out, and in the process of trying to remove them, the snout of the ground electrode wedges into the bore of the head and breaks off... A lot of guys have just gotten into the habit of early and regular maintenance to combat the problem.
