Nut size, power steering line
Nut size, power steering line
Anyone know what the size of the nut is that is on the power steering line on a 98 ford F150, 4.6 ?
Its the line that goes to the bottom of the power steering unit, and I have been able to get an 18 millimeter on it, but there is a little play, and I rolled the line wrench once already off the head of the nut, and I dont want to do that again and possibley stip the head.
I only have a metric set of line wrenches, and havent been succesfull when trying to determine the head size when trying to match it with my standard size wrenches. If anyone know for sure,, I would appreciate it.
thanks......

It's 18mm. I use an 18mm crowsfoot line wrench socket, a long extension and a 3/8 drive socket. They're easier to get off if you pull the pulley off the pump first.
You almost HAVE to pull the pulley, and that takes a special tool. Buy a good one, because the cheapos just crap out. I think I have a Matco set, and it does pretty well. I think I've only broken the stud once.
Thanks guys, looks like the pulleys coming off. Wonder if it would have been cheaper to take it to the shop now, rather than buying all the tools necessary to replace this friggin o-ring.....lol
Was your line leaking? If so I have noticed a similar issue, the line is actually kind of loose where it enters the nut, I have noticed that the pump makes a pretty good howl on startup sometimes, is it worth replacing the pump, or should I just replace the oring and flush the fluid? The truck has 100,000 miles on it.
