Codes without reader

My 02 King Ranch has been shuttering lately and I suspect a bad COP. Do I need a reader to get the code when my CEL comes on or is there a trick to get the code to display on the cluster?

Autozone should be able to read your code for free. If yours is like my 2000, you can hold down the trip reset switch on the odometer then turn your key to on. Continue holding it until the "diagnostic" test comes up, mine is a sweep of the gauges. Then you can scroll through the different types of info (mph, rpm, fuel, bat,.....) you should, if you have codes, see P0xxx codes, these are the ones that you should be concerned about. Hope this helps a little.

Everything with the engine is digital.
You can't read digital code on a lamp. They are 4 digets and a letter.
