my 1997 f150 5.4 has an oil issue. oil pressure will bounce around from average to high to no oil pressure in all different orders. Rebuilt bottom half also changed oil pump and sensor. I know the gauge in dash is a false gauge. It seems to me i am getting a little oil flow but not enough at some times because motor makes noises when gauge reads no pressure. I'm thinking oil pick up and screen is very dirty even though I cleaned them during the rebuild. Will this still oil pump work like this or would it just not pump. Any tips would be helpful.

 

i would throw a mechanial gauge on there to see what pressure actually is. after you might just have to tear off that oil pan again to see whats going on down there. are you running a different weigt oil than you were before???
