Question Factory EFans?

Does Ford put EFans on any vehicle that would work for the new 5.4L? I was thinking the FiveHundred has EFans but don't know if they would work for the truck. Does anyone know if they put them on any of the bigger trucks or vans? It would be a lot easier to use a factory setup.

Those of you that have aftermarket EFans. What are you using for the temp sensor? Is there a factory one to plug into or do you have to mount a sperate one either in the radiator or clamped inside the hose? I ask cause I did this on my Mustang years back and never like the setup with the adjustable temp switch.

Thanks for any help.

Hey Neal. How are those fans copmpared to other brands? Is that a good CFM rating? Where would I pick up that brand of fans? Sorry I'm not too familiar with the whole E-Fan thing. That seems like a real good price compared to what I've seen though...

Cool

HI!... I got mine from SUMMIT RACING for $98(U.S) each, but that was 8 years ago. I believe SUMMIT sells them for $120(U.S) each now. I've had them on my truck for 8 years now with NO problems. Great fans IMO.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. I was looking at the Derale dual kits, not the singles. Looks like a great alternative to the $400+ dual e-fan kits out there. Do they mount up pretty easy with wiring and everything?

HI!... They mount up pretty easy. They come with copper rods that mount the fans through the rad. DON'T USE the copper rods!!!!!!! Get the poly (plastic) rods instead. Never had a rad leak issue with the plastic rods.

HI!... Well I live in CANADA and we get some pretty cold winters here. I have not had any problems with the fans in the winter. Though I basically don't need to use the fans in the winter time.

They are the best! They keep your engine totally cool.

Here's the deal, e-fans (if set up correctly) only run when needed for cooling. When it's cold out, they don't need to run. I recently went just about an entire month without ANY fans. Since installing my FAL fans about 2 weeks ago, they have come on exactly once that I know of. That was waiting in a very slow drive thru at a fast food restaurant.

So... In the last couple weeks and 600 miles, I've used my new e-fans for less than 3 minutes. Quite an investment so far!

i think the new install kits are plastic anymore

i got my derale fans, same setup as neals, for $250 shipped. great deal imo. although the wiring instructions and hardware basically got thrown out with irritation lol. stupid short wires and mis matched flat spade to round spade connections. thought that one was great.

If you're willing to do a little searching you can buy everything separately and get a little better price. You might also need the ability to be creative when mounting and wiring them since they won't have instructions for the complete setup, only each individual item. That said, I got my setup for about $140 shipped. I bought two 14" fans on ebay for about $85 total (Wysco I believe). Two nylon mounting rod kits also on ebay for $10. Derale adjustable fan controller from Summit for $40. I don't have them installed yet because it's been entirely too cold here lately and my garage isn't heated plus I've just been kind of lazy.

windstar fans are the same width as the f150s radiator, the shroud covers nearly the entire core.

Thanks for the great recommendations!

What about the temp. setting? You have to install a seperate thermostat for them don't you? Has anyone came up with something easy that works. I had so many issues with the additional thermostat on my mustang. You had to mount it inside your coolant return tube and then set the temp setting with an adjustable ****. (in other words it caused coolant leaks if not tight enough and ran forever if you didn't have the temp set just right)

Neal,
Do both of your fans run when your engine gets warm or only when you have the AC running? In otherwords did you add a relay for the AC? Normal operation for factory EFans is one on when hot and two on when hot and AC running correct?
