I have a 97 4x4 with a 4.6 auto. when I come to a stop the engine acts like it will stall as if I had a standard and didn,t push in the clutch. it idles fine and never stalls.does the torque convertor stay locked untill the very last second

have you checked your oil lately? may be running low. also might want to check fuel pump, lines, and filter.

 

yup i agree with chief. check all the tune up related things first. 9 out of 10 times its a tune up type problem.

 

Try getting a scan even if you don't have a check engine light. You may show a pending code on the scanner that hasn't set a hard code yet.
