Fuel Pump Help
Fuel Pump Help
I have a 4.6L and its been stuttering when i hit the gas doing 40 mph and also when going up hills. I thought it would be a plug but then last night on the forums a guy pointed out that if it were a plug that it would run ruff all the time. He mentioned fuel pump. Could it be a pump? How to tell? Is there anyhting else it could be?
Mis-fires without a CEL are extraordinarily common. You have to induce the misfire at either a severe enough level before the CEL will come on. If you just *******-foot the pedal when the misfire starts, you'll never set a CEL in the event that you are experiencing a misfire. The most common time to feel this is at low RPMs in high gear with light to moderate acceleration. It just so happens that this is the same set of conditions that commonly induces torque converter shudder.
A shop with a good scan tool can look at the misfire counters in the computer to see if the counts are getting up there.
A good, honest tranny shop can help you differentiate between a misfire and TC shudder if you're unable to make the distinction. I would stay away fromt he national chains and go to a local, independent shop that has been around for a long time.

Start Cheap
Howdy,
I'd start at the bottom of the price scale. Have you changed your fuel filter lately? I had similar problems before and sure enough it was only the fuel filter was somewhat clogged and hampering flow. Best of Luck.
