Running codesDi

did alot of searching, and didnt find what I was looking for. I have a 1996 F150 5.0. Can I run the codes myself with out a scanner? My local Autozone is full of, well lets just say not the sharpest tools in the shed! Thanks B

(not sure how I got the "di" in the header, sorry)

If I remember correctly, on OBDI systems, you could jump certain pins with an ordinary piece of wire on the diagnostic port to have the check engine light flash the number of times that correspond to a certain trouble code, but with OBDII, I believe you can only retrieve them w/ a scanner.

Other local parts stores read codes too. Very simple process to read the codes, even a caveman can do it!

No, you can't pull '96-up codes like with older systems. They're OBD-II, and you must use some type of scantool.
