Ditching the remote oil lines?

Is there anything special I have to do to remove my oil lines and just have my filter on the block? I ofcourse have leaky oil lines and do not like my filter being right behind the bumper.

Why? If it makes it easy to change.... My brother's truck (2003) is a $%^&^%$%^% to get the filter off. I was gonna buy him one for his birthday.

A. they leak like crazy(nothing unusual from Ford)
B. If I get hit in that spot, my oiling setup is gone(rendering truck unmovable)

I dont mind the placement of the filter, cause I have the tools to get it off. Plus, I only have to touch the filter every 2,500 miles...

I've heard horror stories about these lines blowing out, do not want to spend $150 on new lines. Just rather put the filter up to the block and not worry about it.

the lines are fine i just replaced mine few months back. mines a 97 and they were the original lines. summit racing has them for 50$. the are bolted on both ends. some threadlocker and some of the plastic hose protector and youll be fine for another 10 years.

ive never seen steel braided. just buy some of the plastic 5/8 tubing thats put around your starter cable etc.. to help protect them. the oil filter bracket is bolted to the frame. i would not worry about a minor fender bender wrecking everything. just like a tranny cooler line hose, radiator hose. just have to keep an eye on them as the the truck gets older.

Yeah, I didn't want to say it, but if you get in a wreck bad enough to smash your bumper, and smash your oil filter, I don't think you're gonna be driving anyway.
