5.4 and main question

as some of ya know, i've started building my 5.4L, still in the gathering process for parts but i ran across something i need to address.

the average f150/250 has a 5.4L 2 bolt main correct?

the lightning / gators have a 4 bolt main?

if this is true i want to look into getting mine drilled and tapped to accept 4 bolt main assy.

Ummmm...... I don't know how smart that would be. I've never heard of anyone doing that on a 5.4 or 4.6 block, but I know from expirience that it horribly weakens old 350 blocks... I've seen it time and again at the track where someone who tapped 2 bolt mains into 4 bolt mains shattered rods due to execcisve vibration of the crank...

Maybe Neal or JMC would know a little more...

The 5.4 has 2 bolts, 2 dowels and 2 cross mounted main cap bolts. Don't bother drilling anything, you don't need it.

correct. This can handle more power than you know what to do with. Get a Main girdle if you want.

Cool

HI!... It's basically a two bolt main but with the dowels and the side bolts, it acts like a really strong 4 bolt main or a weak 6 bolt main. You'll know when you see your apart. The side bolts go through the block, pass through the main cap dowels and into the main cap it'self. Plus with the deep skirt design of the 5.4 block it's all most bullit proof. With ARP studs and a main girdle like the one from D.S.S the block can handle over 1000H.P (flywheel).

oh alright, i see this now, bad ***! thanks for the info guys. i'll leave it be and just get the ARP stud kit to compliment this some more.

but this raises one question that troyer asked me... what makes it the jackscrew bottom end? is that the studs going thru the side? or does jackscrew mean theres another bolt that does what a "jacking bolt" does? (hate those things at the press...)
