It's long been rumored that Ford has been working on a diesel for the 1/2-ton F-150 lineup. Originally it was thought to have been the Super Duty Powerstroke minus two cylinders, thus making a 4.5L V6 turbo diesel. In fact that engine does exist, and it powers the commercial-oriented Ford Class IV-V cab-over-engine chassis cab city trucks. Well, that engine will not be in the F-150...

The diesel that will power the F-150 will be a 4.4L V8. That news leaked out a few months ago. The latest news on this engine is that it will be a larger version of the new V8 diesel that powers the Euro-spec Range Rover! The RR diesel is a 3.6L V8. Rumor has it this new 4.4L diesel may be built in the UK and shipped over here.

Snippet: Ford may produce the 4.4-litre engine in Britain and ship it to the United States. Although Ford has not settled on the engine's production volume, suppliers and analysts say it could produce 100,000 diesel-powered F-150s.

They had that in Peterson's 4Wheel magazine for January 07. Its schedualed to come out as an 09 model in 2008. The magazine says it has over 400 LBFT!! For a little v8 that would be huge! I think it will sell very well considering I have heard numerous co-workers and such say that "I love the Ford Super Duty Series, I just wish thier light duty came in diesel." I wonder what kind of tranny it will come with??

It is my understanding that the prototype engine is a 4 cyl. that is in the new Low Cab Forward trucks. They said that it will be used in the F150 and the Expedition.:cool:

as long as it makes good power and good economy ill buy it!

The 4.4 diesel that will go into the F-150 is already being made in Turkey. It is already on the road in Europe. The engine should be near the end of its emmissions testing for use in the US. It will be the most advanced technology diesel to hit the US and I expect it to be a major shot in the arm for Ford. For a change, Ford really did do their homework and keep this jewel in house and didn't go to another manufacturer like Case/Navistar. This is an engine that will set the bar for years to come for most diesel manufacturing. It's actually better than you hoped it will be.

My brother has driven one,he said it has awsome power.The same day he got to drive a Ford GT,how kicka$$ is that.

I would be kinda nervous buying a truck whose engine may be made in Britian/England, whatever the name of the country is.

This will add about $3 to $5K to the price of an F150 which makes a crew cab FX4 around $40k+! Who can afford that?

You’ll have an expensive truck with a durable motor that is limited in payload compared to an F250. So you’ll add a modest load of green firewood to the 6’ bed and hit the bump stops and wonder, why didn’t I get the F250!? (my latest experience)

If you want a durable motor with better gas mileage, can afford it, and are not looking to do any heavy hauling, great. But if you are thinking that you want a work horse, capable of hauling nearly anything you throw at it, look at an F250. Why limit yourself?

I think with the added cost it might bump some over to an F250.

And in reg cab short bed configuration. I see a fun project in my future :thumbsup:

It would definite be a boon, but I think $3-4,000 would limit it's acceptance. I think the biggest advantages would be in longevity and fuel mileage - mileage has long been Ford's weak spot.

I read the other day that Ford and Navistar are in a pi$$ing match over warranty costs on the 6.0L PowerStroke - looks like a court battle is in the wind.
