How do you get that? With a light foot I only get 12-13 city. I get 16 on the highway.

Same here......if that. I used to think I got more but I'm pretty sure my odometer was off when I first got the truck. Either that or it's off now. Need to check it with GPS one of these days. Didn't buy it expecting great gas mileage though.

i dont really know to tell you the truth. when i first got the truck i was averaging 12 on a good day. put on an intake, helped a little. didnt really see a big change until i flushed the coolant. saw a huge spike when i did that.

chiefFX4 , how many miles did you have on the truck when you changed the coolant?
Did you use a "special" coolant?

How many more mpgs did you get after replacing coolant?

I only get 11-12 city driving, no hwy driving for me...

thanks...................

my truck is kept to stock. i keep my tires well balanced and admit i stay on interstate more than in city. I also run 93 instead of the recomended 87. dealer told me some of 87 that is sold almost is not strong enough. i usually fill up about 375 and will bottom around 21 or 23 gallons. I do the math and it's about 16.5 and on good days usually after an oil change i get around 17 to 17.5. . thanks good luck everyone

Your dealer doesn't know much about how octane works. The only difference between 87 and 93 is its resistance to ignition, not "strength". I wouldn't be suprised if you notice an increase in MPG if you go down to 87, not to mention you'll save a few bucks at the pump.

Yep, your truck is designed to run on 85 octane.

my '98 is designed to run off 87 but i still say 16.5 to 17.5 is not bad considering my sticker says 14 city and 18 on highway. i would consider ru nning 87 though because it is cheaper but i have run 93 since this truck had 000008 miles and changing now would not make since to me. i'll revert back probably when it needs to be rebuilt. In '98 gas prices weren't as crazy but most of mine is charged back to my customers i'm an independent service tech.

Why? It gets worse fuel mileage and has less power with 93 than it would with 87.

I just have not experienced any loss and my engine actually sustains acceleration after the pedal has been let go. engine remains smooth through acceleration also. no signs of it being overworked to date.
