computer malfunction? 03 Spercrew

This is a good one, first found battery dead. Charged and put batt back in and noticed fan motor sound. Blower fan running with key off. Next discovered radio would turn off when in a drive gear. Windsheild wipers the same way only would come on when it wanted to. Intermittand chime sound would occur while driving. Disconnected battery again and reconnected. Next the blower fan went back to normal, radio still only plays in park or neutral and now the radio will play with key off and windows operate along with the chime when the door is opened. Recommended to leave battery disconnected for longer period. Waited two hours. Reconnected, everything seems to be back to normal. Ran motor put in drive radio worked , nothing on when key off. Success at last. Got up this morning everthing looked normal, truck would not start. Haven't checked battery voltage yet. Got any ideas. Or is it dealer time.

It seems more like the computer is leaving something on draining the battery. I should have mentioned this is over a three day period. Drove it to work and back with the radio and wiper condition exsisting at the time. Other symptoms occured later. It was the fan stuck on that killed it the first time. What made the fan stay on, what does the shifter postion got to do with the radio? Will check voltage when I get home.

My WAG is a faulty GEM. Check for water leaks around the windshield on the driver side.

There is an SSM on that particular issue.... I stumbled across it yesterday... checking for it now...

One of them was this one:
16928 1997-2003 F-150 - INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONCERNS
SOME 1997-2003 F-150 VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT VARIOUS INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONCERNS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: SOME ACCESSORIES REMAINING POWERED UP WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, MULTIPLE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS WITH 'SHORT TO POWER' OR 'LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE' DTC'S. IF THESE SYMPTOMS MOST OFTEN OCCUR AFTER A RAIN OR SNOW, OR AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WASHED, THIS MAY BE DUE TO WATER INTRUSION IN THE CENTRAL JUNCTION BOX (CJB) OR GEM. TO SERVICE, REMOVE THE GEM AND CJB FROM THE VEHICLE, SEPARATE THEM, AND INSPECT FOR WATER CONTAMINATION OR SIGNS OF CORROSION. IF FOUND IN EITHER COMPONENT, REPLACE BOTH COMPONENTS, THEN LOCATE AND REPAIR THE SOURCE OF THE WATER ENTRY.

there was another I think....

this one was a TSB:
00-19-02
LAMP COURTESY, GLOVE COMPARTMENT, UNDERHOOD, RUNNING BOARD LAMPS, POWER WINDOWS, RADIO, REAR WIPER - INOPERATIVE IN MORNING OR AFTER VEHICLE IS LEFT UNATTENDED FOR 45 MINUTES: REPLACE BATTERY SAVER RELAY (YL3Z-14N089-AA). REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE (EVTM) FOR LOCATION OF THIS RELAY.
A TEMPORARY LOSS OF FUNCTIONS CONTROLLED BY THE BATTERY SAVER RELAY MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES. THESE FUNCTIONS MAY BE INOPERATIVE FOR A SHOFT PERIOD OF TIME AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS SAT UNATTENDED FOR AT LEAST 45 MINUTES. THESE FUNCTIONS ARE LIMITED TO COURTESY AND INTERIOR/DEMAND LAMPS, GLOVE COMPARTMENT, UNDERHOOD LAMPS AND POWER WINDOWS. RUNNING BOARD LIGHTS, MOONROOF AND THE REAR WIPER MAY BE AFFECTED ON EXPEDITION AND NAVIGATOR. THE RADIO MAY ALSO BE INOPERATIVE DURING THIS TIME ON NAVIGATOR ONLY. THE LOSS OF THESE FEATURES IS TEMPORARY AND CAN LAST FROM A FEW SECONDS UP TO 10-15 MINUTES. REPLACE BATTERY SAVER RELAY (YL3Z-14N089-AA). REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE (EVTM) FOR LOCATION OF THIS RELAY.
See TSB for complete details

This is a possibility, but I suspect it's one of the first two...

14207 AUDIO CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING
SOME 2000 F-150 EQUIPPED WITH THE PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM MAY EXHIBIT AN AUDIO SYSTEM THAT CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE PREMIUM SOUND RADIO IS DESIGNED TO MUTE WHILE THE VEHICLES IGNITION IS IN THE START MODE TO AVOID AUDIBLE POPS. DUE TO SOME MODULE COMBINATIONS IN THE F-150, THE RADIO MAY ENTER THIS MUTE CONDITION WHILE DRIVING. IF THE VEHICLE IS EXHIBITING THIS CONDITION AND IS EQUIPPED WITH PREMIUM SOUND CONTACT THE AUDIO HOTLINE AT ########## FOR FURTHER DIRECTION.

Has it rained recently in your area? Or did you wash your truck recently?

yes this occured after a heavy rain, but there have been heavy rains before and no problems. Took battery and had tested, it's good. After that put battery back in vehicle and monitored voltage drop. Battery is holding and no further problems since then. I would like to inspect the components mentioned in another thread I read to see if there was a water intrusion. Thanks for the advice.

The first one sounds like what I am experiencing, can some one tell me where the CJB or GEM is located? Is it underdash above accelerator pedal.
