IAC Cleaned, Still Loud Noise

I previously posted about an intermittent humming noise that I am getting when the truck is at idle. I was also having starting issues in the cold weather.

I cleaned out my IAC valve today and the truck starts fine now but there is still the intermittent loud humming noise and it is loudest at the air filter (I have an aftermarket intake). Will replacing the IAC stop this or is it something else? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

ive never heard of a i.a.c valve making noise. make sure you dont have a small vacumn leak somewhere. check all your intake connections.

sounds like a vacuum leak to me. check all the connections that lead to and from the intake. my intake squeals in hot weather. the hoses have just never sealed right. doesnt bother me that much so ive never done anything about it.

Replace it. IACs weren't meant to be cleaned.

I plan on replacing it but I am not paying $110.90 plus tax for one from the dealership when I can get the same exact one made by Ford for around $60 online. I just cleaned it as a temp. fix until the new one arrives.

I didn't think it was 110 bucks. Might want to double check. You can also get it at auto zone or any of the auto parts stores.
That sound, if it is the IAC is often refered to as moosing.

It is $110.90 plus tax at my local dealership (I need part number F65Z-9F715-EA - 4.6 L).

Check your PCV valve. Aftermarket ones tend to rattle/buzz with the vehicle running.

It's probably the IAC. If the sound is still there *after replacing the IAC* then try shortening the hoses or reinstalling the black box that was there before.

I would start the truck, let it run a bit and if you can, unplug the IAC, the truck will chug a lot if not die, then plug it back in, the quicker the better. Another idea is with the truck off, unplug the neg. battery terminal, unplug the IAC, then plug it back in and reinstall the neg. batt cable. I think it will reset itself, seemed to work on a 99 explorer we fixed, eventually it should stop making this noise. The new one should fix all so maybe just be patient is all.

ok,let's use our brain here.would you rather try a $.50 piece of heater hose to sorten the iac line,or a $100 iac.its the vacuum line that runs from the intake tube to the iac.just take a little out at a time.it worked on mine and i remember several people on here a while back with the same problem and it worked on theirs.and then i'd try a bottle of seafoam in the intake.always start with the ceapest/easiest fix first then work your way into your wallet.and you can check your pcv valve by shaking it.if it rattles,or you're not sure replace it,they're only a couple bucks too.

I had this exact same problem in the past. I had my father check into it (he is an engine engineer at Ford) with the people who work on the 4.6's. It's the IAC, cleaning won't help, it's a defect that was corrected before they even shipped all of the vehicles with that engine, but as you know, some of them made it out. Replace it...the humming WILL go away!
