forget the dealership. the independent mechanics that have been turning wrenches for 20 years i trust more. those guys fresh out of tech school might be book smart but id rather go with someone with experience.find a good mechanic is almost as hard as finding a good woman. when you find them dont let them go.

OK, I'm all in favour of DIY and agree that in most cases, you'll do a better job yourself, and oil's one of the easiest, but how does the warranty thing work? I know, despite most manufacturers/dealers' spin, your warranty is good provided the mechanic you use is licenced, but if you DIY, how are you covered?

I change oil in alot of cars, and I can never remember how much oil needs to go in. I look at the ownwers manual, find the capacity, and write it with a marker in a obvious location under the hood.

If the idiot tech sees this note, he may do it right next time. They don't look at the manuals, just the dipstick.
