I use STP octane boost/cleaner randomly, mostly on long trips, and have recorded 0.3 to even 0.8 mpg better (depending on speed and terrain); but the best thing, in my opinion, you can do for your fuel system and engine is run the good gas all the time instead of the cheap stuff: the difference in price for a full tank is like 3 or 4 bucks and it's a cleaner fuel; plus you definately get better gas milage with 93 Octane so it almost pays for the difference.

So your saying that spending the extra money on higher octane gas will also help out with fuel economy as well in the way that it keeps things in your engine clean? Ive never really thought about it. Ive always run the 87 octane in mine...

KDOT posted this pic once, prolly the best way to clean your injectors(when routed thru the fuel rail) This hookup (thru the booster) cleans the TB ..

you can use MOA by BGProducts to injectinto the fuel system and ca also do the seafoam as well..also seafoam can be injected so to speak thru a vacuum line..let sit and the can will smoke like crazy while all the oil is removed from your intake

Nope, if you are not tuned for higher octane you are only burning money. Higher octane fuel is not always cleaner.

Generally, two other types are used at the same time. One in the crankcase and another in the fuel tank.
Seafoam goes in the vac line. Fuel injector cleaner like he is talking about goes to the fuel rail. It is in a pressurized can and your engine runs off of the cans contents while it cleans.

2006 FX4 with less the 10k miles...

I just added Chevron w/Tech. cleaner to my gas tank. It was the 12 gal bottle and there was about 20 gallons in the tank. In about 5 seconds the engine started to run _very_ rough. Acceleration was terrible! I drove it to the nearest gas station and put an additional 10 gallons of 88 octane in (live in Utah where 85 octane is fine). It ran just fine after that. I've used the Chevron cleaner many times in the past on other vehicles with no problems. From what I've read, most of the other cleaners are not worth the money. But now I'm scared to put any cleaner back into the truck.

clean machine

I have been using 1 oz. of acetone to 10 gal of petrol in my truck. It definitely cleans up the intake. see link: http://www.pureenergysystems.com/new...00069_Acetone/ , but be prepared to change your motor oil since the acetone cleans all the gunk out and deposits it in the oil and out the exhaust. My Hyundai ran terrible for over a year and three mechanics could not figure out what was wrong. A mechanic friend at church told me he would do a detergent cleaning with MotorVac. Voila', the vehicle performs better than ever. Seafoam is a good cleaner for maintenance if poured into a low tank of gas. I believe it is very similar to the Motorvac detergent. I took some advice once from a parts guy and put a bottle of Seafoam directly into the intake plenum. I did not see a big difference in performance. I should have also put some into the injector rail and allowed it to sit overnight and dissolve the sludge. Next Time!

The best I've used and sold to others is B.G. Industries 44K injector cleaner. Most shops in my area use this too. www.bgprod.com

DON'T! It says in your owner's manual to NEVER put any in your gas tank, and that if you do, it voids your warranty. It's a waste of money anyway. Gasoline dissolves almost any petroleum product, and your filter catches particulates. Also, if your truck is running good, you're crazy to go dumping chemicals in your gas tank! It can only make things worse.
