M.Y. 2000 5.4L specs.

I have a 5.4L in my 2000 Expy 4wd. Does it have the 2 or 3 valve heads?

Also, since I am towing more and more now, at what approximate RPM does this engine develop maximum torque?

I dug around for dyno sheets but could only find H.P. numbers.

2 valve, mine made peak power at 3000rpm when it was stock.

built54,

Holy cow! Nice truck!

I have a K&N FIPK gen2 that came with the truck when I bought used. I returned the truck to stock intake cause the hiss of the K&N was driving me nuts. I am towing a lot more now so I am looking at every bump in torque I can get.I was looking at H.P. charts at K&N site and max HP is made at something like 4950 rpm. Now what average joe runs at that RPM? They dont say where max torque is produced though.

Are these types of intake systems really worth putting on if you are shooting for staying in the "meat" of the torque curve? I seem to be "living" in the 2500 to 3500 RPM world when I tow.

I already have a 2.5" Magnaflow cat back (pressure not mandrel bent) and I just bought a Superchips programmer that I have yet to install.

Thanks

intakes really dont change your torque curve... they are all about the same, but the ones that dont suck hot engine air are the best.

The programmers going to be quite an improvemnt with it's tow setting. Troyer should have the spec sheets your looking for.

Sorry,

I phrased that incorrectly. Does the air intakes improve torque output?

I always wondered about the FIPK. It just sits in the engine bay with all that engine heat. No shield or anything.

What are some good intakes that I could look at that deliver cold air. Or......is it really not going to make that much of a difference in the end to the K&N? If were talking 2-3 hp difference the math of selling k&n taking hit and buying new doesnt seem to pencil out.

Volent is the best cold air set up- IMO - I already told you where to get the numbers your looking for. Mikes a good guy.

Yep volant, hp and torque are gained from the curve up.
