flex plate

hi,
after weeks of weird metal noise when starting up, i decided to lift my engine out to check, and i was shocked to find all the fastener on my flex plate were loose, thus making the flex plate "wooble" when turning making "clung clung " sound. i remember torque the fastener 59lb , how did it all get loose?
should i use some type of thread sealant?

Should resurface and use new bolts. Pins pull right out.

If the flexplate is loose, the bearings on the torque converter are probably hosed too, possibly the input shaft as well.

500th post!

Resurfacing the flexplate don't matter as long as it's not warped.

I'm confused as to what end of the flexplate was actually loose. The flexplate to crank bolts, or the torque converter to flexplate nuts? Either one should get new fasteners when you go back together, and loctite on the flexplate to crank bolts.

You resurface flywheels. You replace flexplates.

HI!... You can't resurface a FLEXPLATE. Make sure the bolt holes on the flexplate are not egg shaped now due to the woppeling. If they are, replace the flexplate. If o.k, I would suggest buying new flexplate bolts and use thread locker (LOK-TITE) on them.

HI!... If your not severely modded or plan to go severely modded, then just get a stock flexplate. Are the alignment dowels stuck in the engine block or the trans bell housing? I'm assuming the engine block. If your going to buy new alignment dowels then use a small pipe wrench on the outside of the dowels and turn them back and forth. If that doesn't work I have sometimes use a pair of needle nose vise grips. Insert one of the jaws into the dowels and the other on the outside of the dowel. Make sure you clamp them down extremely tight. Now using a larger pair of normal vise grips grap the 1ST pair of vise grips securely. You would kinda be making a "T" with the two pairs of vise grips. Simply take a hammer and hit the 2ND pair of vise grips out away from the dowel. This usually will pop the dowels out. Hope this helps you.

HI!... The stock 4R70-W flexplate will handle a lot of power. If your not going to make more than 550-600H.P at the crank, then stick with the stock one. If you want to go aftermarket or get one that is SFI approved then try PERFORMANCE AUTOMATIC (PA). I got mine from there through TROYER PERFORMANCE.

I also can't find a flexplate for the 5.4L 3v. Would the 2v 5.4L flexplate fit? Either way where the hell can I buy one?
