Quick Gatorback Belt Question

Hey, just a quick question for you Gatorback fellas out there. Just bought a Gatorback Serpentine belt for my truck b/c the old one was original and was starting to chirp. Here's my question. I could have sworn I read something on here somewhere about cleaning the pullies or something before you put the new belt on to preven it from that annoying chirp. Now I can't find the thread. I'm tempted to just put the belt on and try it, but I also thought the thread said something about a builup on the pullies transferring to the belt and needing to replace the belt if you got that crap on the belt. Am I losing my mind or did I actually read this? Anyone out there just put the belt on without cleaning things up first? Thanks in advance.--DIY

If you really feel that you need to clean the pulley surface you could just get a piece of fine emery cloth and do it that way. Personally I have never had to do so...

I didn't, and the belt hasn't chirped in 30,000 miles and 4 years since the change.

Put the belt on. No need to clean anything.

Funny post to stumble accross....

I just replaced my stock serp belt with a Gatorback replacement a couple of weeks ago..

I wouldnt spend TONS of time cleaning the pullies.. If you see obvious dirt, debree, grime then yes it would probably be in your best interest to wipe them down using a clean rag, towel or small brush. You dont have to make them shine like brand new. Some of those pullies are hard enough to get to just trying to put the belt on let alone trying to clean them. But if you have the time and effort to want to do this more power to you.

If you didnt have anything leak on them like oil or antifreeze you should be ok to just take the old one of and put the new one on. Good luck

Hah, yeah I guess you're right.

I put the belt on without messing with cleaning the pullies and all went fine. No more chirping. Thanks everybody.--DIY
