Question Engine wines at freeway speeds..

Hey everyone I have a 98 f150 4.6L 4x4 and am getting a engine wine at freeway speeds and when going up long grade's. It sounds very similar to the same wine you get when you rev up a dirt bike. It happens when I mash on the gas to pass or get on the freeway. I can also make it do it when I mash the gas and then get off it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

TDawg.

I'm sure mine has the same, once in a while and very light, just noticed. Can't say what it is, no consistancy with it. To be honest, I like it, sounds like a very quiet Eaton blower. Cheap Lightning thrills, gotta love em!

Ya I wish I had a blower in mine.

Ah well maybe its just the engine showing its age. 98 with 70,000 miles. Gonna have the codes read at the dealer one of these days.

Whining noise in the engine compartment? Could be simple ford power steering pump failure, only noticed at higher rpm's. I would try to listen for noise when stopped in park, pick up rpm's. Can you hear it now?
