weird mising....

01 f150 4.6 104xxx miles. it runs fine cold and at normal operating temp, but the in between part it acts like it is missing. My guess is when the water starts to circulate from the radiator cooler water hits a sensor on the intake and makes it do this or would it just be somthin else??? no engine light on.

Also my oil light comes on when it is cold outside, oil is fine plus if there was no oil pressure it would make alot of noise. ( only when it is about 60* or below)

Any ideas would help im clueless

I changed the plugs at 90,xxx there's not any wires on this year just coil packs, wich 2 of those are brand new.

But I wonder if it may be another coil pack goin out. The last 2 times I had one go out the truck would hardly run though. hell I may just go ahead and buy the other 6 packs and see what happens, they are only like $77 a peice.

as far as the tune up goes I did that not long ago.

Went through this crap many times- just replace everything or you'll receive numerouse headaches in the next 5000 miles lol -

$77 a piece - mann, that's crazy!!

8 new Motorcraft platinums and 8 new COP's for $130

Kevins the owner of Global Automotive - If you order
your COP's from there, write him an email or call - specifi the
plugs you want or you'll get the wrong ones - that's if you get the kit.

Oil thing,

Could be as simple as a bad sensor. I believe it is right next to the oil filter and can get smacked when you change the oil.

What kind of oil filter are you using? Could be that the anti-drainback valve is stuck.

You might have an oil pump going bad. Just because there is oil on the stick doesn't mean that the oil is circulating. What oil are you using?

Holy Crap , 4 some reason your 1rst post wasn't comin through here yesterday - so it didn't make sense lol .

Your oil light - I would take very serious until I found out why it came on . In my experiance anyway , it comes on only when your pump has failed or is failing , I seen one come on with a dirty pickup screen - so dirty that oil couldn't make it through all that well .

I would take it serious until I could explain why - at least ghange your oil and use the OEM oil filter - I would pull the pan to see if anythings going on. , but that's up to you.

Good Luck

You better check it - or get it looked at - I don't trust that at all...That light should never come on if things are okay internaly.

I use motorcraft filter and castrol 5-20. it done this last year in the cold weather to but only when it is extremly cold it does it. I dunno next time it gets cold enough to do it again i'll take it to get looked at. but it seems to me as if it would just be a sensor but who knows.

does it come on only when engine is cold and temp is cold? like it doesnt stay on once the engine is warmed up right?

what weight oil you running?

my roomates Trans Am just started doing it on cold mornings, but his is an oil change light. I think its just b.c the oil is a little thick in the cold morning.

lol, yeah, like them crank sensors on the 7.3L's? that is GREAT when that fails...

anyways, my 4.6 is a 97, 180k. it gives me all kinds of problems and headaches via sounds it makes. but NEVER has the light come on bud, well as far as i know. so i would take these guys advice and run with it. if your not savvy and dyi type, get her looked at. if you are a savvy dyi'er start checking these things out.

oh and btw. how cold of a temp are we talking here? and do you have a block heater? last year my truck was in single digits a few times w/o a block heater, no light (found out this year it is burnt out, so who knows really.) and she made all kinds of a fuss.
this year with the block heater, i have not heard any complaints from the engine.
maybe if this all checks out to be fine, you could invest in a block heater to help avoid this and avoid stressing about it. if you dont have one already

I use the factory spec oil 5-20. and yes it is only when the truck is cold and cold outside, it did not do it this morning and it was 56 degrees this morn. I know it does it for sure when it is around the 40 degree temp. but when the truck run for about 3 mins the oil gauge goes up.

the funny thing is if there is no oil press I know for sure it would make some nasty ticking/noises from no oil press, my mustang did this at the track and it sounded horrid. I thought the motor blew up. but it just put a little wear on my main bearings and replaced them.
