Talking Horse Power??

I got a 2005 5.4L V8, just wondering what a stock engine is excepted to get in horsepower and torque. What is a cheap and good way to get more out of your engine?

Depends on what cheap means to you.

Tuner
Dual exhaust
E-Fans
CAI
Supercharger
Turbo(s)
Nitrous

click on technical articles at the top of the screen. few things you can do. may also give you some ideas on adding that custom touch.

some of the cheaper things are intake, exhaust and efans. they free up a little bit. enough to notice.

I doubt you will see that in real world dyno numbers. Correct me if im wrong, but that rating is based on flywheel/crank dyno

You're correct Patman. I'm GUESSING 225 HP and 275 Torque at the wheels.

More realistic numbers (at the wheels) would be 210-215HP and 245-255 TQ.
I am basing this on over 300 dyno runs that I have been witness to on the new 3V motor..

Why? It's a 1/2 ton pickup, not a Peterbuilt or a sports car. If you want powerful towing get a 250, 350, 450, 550 etc. If you want sports car get a GT or Shelby Cobra.

People these days. They want pickups that are like cars, but then complain. Sheesh.

Theres a solution , you want the best of both worlds - shell out 5 grand for procharger or something. I don't want a sports car or a Peterbuilt lol. I like a fast truck.

A super charger along with a few more mods you can have a fast as hell truck. If that's what you want - it's possible, but your going to pay for it.

There is always someone that just has to post about how these trucks aren't sports cars blah blah blah... Did I ever say it was or complain that these trucks are too slow? All I said was that from a 300hp engine the 210ish at the wheels was a sad number.

OK fine. You want more rear wheel hp? Strip out the pickup transmission and rear end and put something less heavy duty. There now you may have more hp. I think 70% effeciency is fairly good myself.

That is unless you can overcome the laws of physics and design a powertrain with no energy losses. While you're at it design an engine that's 100% efficient.

That's not a sad number, that's just how the real world works. I think the vehicle does what it is designed to do. People start pushing the design envelope of the vehicle (ie 0-60 times and towing 10,000lbs) and they get disappointing results. It's like someone complaining that their new impact gun won't drive nails worth a darn.

I wasn't too far off with a random guess.
