Cam or no cam???

Well x-mas time is coming and im making up my holiday wishlist. Im mainly wanting more hp and tq for my truck, so what better to do than a cam. Right? Ive looked into a few cams here and there and ive looked at the TP programmers for my truck but uncertain what to get. Any help will be appreciated.

What do you have? Should we assume it's a '91? What have you already done?

91 F-150 with a 351w. The only thing ive done is flowmaster 40 exhaust. Im looking for a cam cause i want alittle more power with out having to spend a ton of money on my truck, seeing as i might be buying a car later on. But, i want the cam in the truck so as to have alittle more towing power when im towing it to and from places.

a cam would give you some nice power. I would go for it.

Put a crane compu cam in it. It will work well with the speed density. If you have alot of miles on the truck you will need new valve springs to go with the cam to handle the extra lift.

My brother put a Compucam (from Comp) in his '91 F250 5.8. He also added headers (I believe they were pacesetter headers). Really woke the truck up from the dismal performance that it had originally. BTW, it had 238,000 miles on it when he did this work to it....at 250,000 it picked up a small miss. Turns out that the #7 exhaust valve was "sucked", which effectively makes the valve stem longer...and the valve was held open slightly. He pulled the engine, overhauled it (rings, bore, bearings & gaskets...otherwise he left it alone) and that REALLY helped.
