Remove the hood to gain clearance for the cherry picker. The intake manifold needs to be removed before you pull it out. You do not need to remove the cab. Pick up a shop manual and follow the procedure. It is not difficult to do, just a lot of little odds and ends than need to be done before you pull it out.

HI!... Ya don't pull the cab. I just pulled out my built 5.4L last weekend. Took me 3.5 hours in my driveway with NO air tools.

Why? Because he can.
Jay, make sure you don't try to remove the engine with the transmission still attached, that won't work. Also, it might be easier to get the motor out if you take off the front wheels and lower the truck some or just let the air out of the front tires. Take your time, read directions, and be safe.

The trucks do take a little bit more time.

With a Mustang, I can have the motor out, on a stand, and torn down to a short block in just over an hour. But I have air, so that's cheating a little bit. LOL

A couple weeks ago I was working on a friends 90 LX 5.0. It was just a freshen up, new bearings, rings, hone, oil pump, etc. I sent him to pick up some pizza (Little Ceasers, 5 bucks each!!) and some beer. While he was gone, I had the hood off, yanked the motor, had it torn down, and was taking off the rod caps when he got back. First thing he said was, "Is that mine? WTF!?" Ya think I might have done that a couple times?? hehe
