some probs

well, i dont know where to post so i hope ya all can help me out. and beside that english's my second language so be patient with me.

recently my truck been acting weird and it's 97 f150 xlt, 4.6L w/ auto and it got 105k miles on it. the check engine light 's on and i went to autozone and they told me it 's the egr valve need to be clean.

but anyway, here's the problem. when i cruise in the truck suddenly the truck hesistate/stumble like cant get into gear or something, that happen when going up hill or i press on the gas, when i took my feet off the pedal it go away and it do it again once in a while. it happen between 35mph and up.
when i put in od, the od light come on(off) the hesistate/stumble going away but after a day or two, it come back.

someone told me it might be the bad gas, so i put some gas additive and also put some good gas(shell 93) and it still doing it. can it be tranmission? i check on the fluid and it look good, but i add 1/2 bottle to make sure it was not low. i havent change the fluid yet since i got it on 68k miles. i will have it done, pan off and flush this tuesday at the shop.

can someone pin point to me if is there anything i should do and shouldnt do?
thanks in advance.

I would change the fuel filter as general maitnance but if the codes show EGR valve than go ahead and clean it, or better yet replace it. I have had the (dis)pleasure of cleaning one EGR valve and to me its not worth the $65 to just go ahead and replace it and be done with it.

hello

97red...my truck is a 97 f150 with the 4.6 and was having the same problems. Autozone also told me it was the egr valve. I changed it and had the same problem so I put on a new egr sensor and the cel has not come on since. I still have the bit of a rough idle even after cleaning the throttle body, maf sensor, iac valve, a new pcv valve and a new fuel filter. I do think I am about due for new plugs and wires though so I am hoping that clears it up(143,000miles on her). Anyways, mine also was shifting like yours so I changed the filter and fluid(although it looked good) and damn, what a difference. It shifts so nice now. When I would get on it a bit goin up hill it would amost feel like it was boggin down and hesitating, on the highway passing people...same thing. After that tranny fluid/filter change it doesn't do it anymore. It shifts smooth, even goin up a hill if i get on it, it still shifts smooth(no bogging feeling). Hope that helps a bit.
