Question changing a 4.6L to a 5.4L

hello everyone,
i recently blew the engine in my 1997 ford F-150 4x4. instead of paying someone to repaire it, i decided to change it out myself. i was wondering if anyone has any information on changing a 4.6L to a 5.4L. my main concerns are will the transmission line up, and will the mounts line up. If anyone has any useful information they could send my way that would be great!
thanks alot.

everything should line up fine as the 5.4 adn 4.6 have the same external block demensions. the difference is displacement.

it would be just the same as installing another 4.6 engine.

I agree, you will need a new PCM too.

Not quite...he'll need his computer to be retuned to work with the COP ignition. Where's JMC when we need him?

Copy and paste this to oyour address bar.

I am doing the same thing in about 3 months and i already went through and did all the talking. Also in there is a link to another thread that is 4 or 5 pages long with step by step directions and pictures. The whole nine yards. A ton of info and great stuff. The tread link is almost at the bottom of the first page and its by sclime. Both him and JMC have some great knowledge of the subject. Both of them have compleated the swap. Good luck and if i can help you any more let me know.

you can run the 4.6L's coil packs and wires. you don't need to be running cops. It's been done in mustangs and thunderbirds and they run just fine

True, but he will still need a new tune to work with his existing computer.
