I seriously doubt it, I can say it's bad to run premium in vehicles designed for lower octanes. I don't have an expanation , but I here it all the time.

A vehicle can be tuned to run premium threw your computer on newer vehicles , you do this if your build warrents it.

premium wont help your leak problem. And his 92 doesnt have much in the way of computer tunes etc.

Yeah, that's why I said "on newer vehicles" . Should have been more clear I guess. I think his is fuel injected , but that's about it as far as programming.

I heard it's bad to run premium tho, I still do if we head to hills for some climbing or when a friend makes a mod to his truck and wants to race lol.

The difference is HUGE comparing 87 and Sunoco 94 octanes feeding the 5.4L's fire. She really likes that 94 - it's like candy lol..

well on our newer trucks, without the tune, you basically arent getting any gain from putting higher grade. B.c the motor doesnt have any kind of sensor to determine what fuel is being used. It treats it anything you put into it, like its still reg grade. I have only put premium in one tank full, and i honestly didnt notice a difference, even on some WOT runs.

Your computer has nothing to do with it after it's ignited - you said it yourself lol. Mine is a hell of allot quicker on Premium - no tunes needed. WOT runs is were it makes the biggest difference .. Hell, It even sounds different at idol. no offense.

JBREW... You are so RIGHT! The difference between 87 and 93 octane in my truck is very noticeable. My truck has more ZIP and I can tell I don't need to give it as much throttle to get going. It just runs slugglish on 87. BoB

well the only thing that led to me asking is that i've heard that if you really truck your truck hard you can cause oil leaks. that made sense to me. so, should i stop putting premium in my tank?

The type of gas you put in your truck will not cause oil leaks.
You might as well switch back to 87, since running premium is more than likely not benefitting you. But dont expect your oil leak to magically disappear.

thanks guys, i didn't think the two had much to do with one another but now i know. and i'm with him, mine actually does feel different on take off with premium. i really only started buying it since gas prices fell so sharply. i was used to paying more than that and now i'm getting better. idk, maybe it's dumb, but i've noticed a difference.
