engine cranks but doesnt start
2001 F150 about a month ago my Ford wouldnt start. If you played with the
remote key entry fob it would start. After a couple of more times of it not starting that trick wouldnt work. One time it seemed to start after I pressed the brake. It finally failed to start after trying everthing. I had it towed to a
shop. At his shop the Truck started with no problem. He said he put the code reader on and it showed no fault codes. He changed the fuel filter. The Truck ran for a week with no problems. Then again it would crank but wouldnt start.
I bought my own obd-2 reader. The truck didnt run for 4 days as I was trying to figure it out. I didnt read any fault codes. After much reading and researching on the internet I gave up. I was going to take it to the Ford shop
but the last time I had it hooked up to the reader and it still didnt show any faults I reset it anyway. The Truck started. This trick has worked the last 4
times. What is going on??

Did you ever let it run on "low fuel".
I had this problem with my 01 screw where I let it run on "low fuel" for a while and then all of a sudden got a great crank but no fire. I remeber it worked for a while then just stop starting all together. What I found out on this forum was the 01 screws fuel pump requires the gas to keep the it lubricated and when you run them low it allows them to dry out and go bad. In my case I did just that and it went from intermitten start to just plain old great cranking and no start. So when I dropped my fuel tank to remove my fuel pump My filter on the pump was sitting at the bottom of the fuel tank. Once I put the new one on, after two cranks it fired right up and has ever since I did the replacement. do a search, I had a whole series of procedures to try before replacing the fuel pump. Good luck.
