i was driving along running great and slowed down to turn my ,97 5.4 went dead and when i cranked it it ran like it was all out of tune , backfiring and shaking real bad

 

Did you receive a MIL (Check Engine Light) ?? Is it drivable ? Miles?

 

i drove it about 10 miles further and it finally got to where it shut down and didnt want to crank, no light but i think its got a bad bulb

 

That doesn't sound good at all, have you heard any clanging or rattling going on within the LAST ten miles. Did it quit on you and then it wouldn't crank - or did you shut it down yourself?
Drain the oil , drop the pan - check for shrapnel, check out the oil pickup screen..
