i have a 04 f150 that has 35,000 miles on it and i run 87 octane gas and it is starting to ping when i get into the throttle, do i need to run higher octane or what and i have also just ordered a edge tuner will this be a problem or what.

 

Not sure if this will help any but I am running the Edge 93 octane tune. I have been buying Shell for a while and last week, I filled up at an Exxon, 93 octane. My truck started pre-detenation after the 2-3 shift. As soon as I got down to about a quarter of a tank, I filled up with Shell again, rattle is gone. Also, I thought maybe it was telling me the MAF needed to be cleaned as I had 35,000 and it had never been cleaned. So I cleaned it yesterday, it seems to have perked up a bit, but that may be my wishful thinking. The weird thing, I had run thhe gas from that EXXon a while back with no problems, so it was either a bad batch or something has changed in my truck.
