Code Scanner

Hey all: New to the site, just bought my 1st F150 98 sc 4.2.
After having a 91 blazer for ever. Any advice on a brand of code scanner?
With the blazer it was real easy, two alligator clips on a wire and the codes flashed on the dash.
This one looks a little more involved.

Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome to the site!
The scanner you will need is an OBD II scanner (1997 and newer). Your 91 Chevy was OBD I. I bought my OBD II scanner from Sears. It's made by Acton? (I think) and was about $150.
Unless you plan on tuning your PCM, I would think something along those lines would be sufficient. If you are planning on tuning the eng, then you might want to look at Superchips, etc. Those scanners are capable of reading codes as well.

Make certain the scan tool is capable of pulling "manufacturer specific codes". Without that capability (the cheapest versions) they're almost worthless.

Thanks for the info. I saw some cheap ones on Ebay and wondered if they would be any good. I guess not,
