1988 F150 problem.
hi all, i am new to this forum and just wanted to say that it looks like a great site.
well, i just bought a 1988 F150 with a straight 6 four speed. this truck runs really good but i just have at the moment one problem with the engine. it sometimes turns off just at idle and it loops abit. but onces its on and running it dose not loop. but when its warm and i come back from a drive i turn off the truck and start it up after a few it acts the same.while driving it runs good with no problem. i'm not sure what it is since i'm new to these trucks. but i am very machanicly incline so their would be no problem fixing it if i new the problem. its fuel injected. so if anyone here has come accross this problem with this year truck or just has, please help me out. thanks guys.

By "loop" do you mean a loping idle, like it revs a little, then falls, then revs again? It won't keep a constant RPM?
I had this problem on my dune buggy, it turned out to be a vacuum leak in the manifold. Granted that was a carb'd motor, but I suspect the principle is similar.
The injectors could also be clogged or dirty. If you can find it, run a bottle of K-100 "G" though. It's the only fuel additive I've had consistently good results with. Otherwise, put a bottle of gumout FI cleaner through and see if that helps anything.
Start with the basics. Check the air filter and change if necessary. If the truck looks "beat", chances are the fuel filter has never been changed, so take care of that. If it's got high mileage(over 100k), changing the plugs/wires is probably a wise move also. I'd do all of this before moving to pull the injectors and manually clean them, since that's kinda a hassle.

thanks ra,
well yes, its a loping idle BUT. it only happens when i start it sometimes. besides that it idles aroung 6-700rpm i shot carb cleaner around the whole fuel setup because i thought the same with a air leak but nothing. engine stayed the same idle. and i had changed the air filter already. i just might as well do a complete tuneup just because i want to to rule that out.
