Superchips

Hi,

Just found this forum. Pretty sweet - tons of information for a new 2004 F-150 Lariat owner.

Now the big question - I'm pretty overwhelmed with google and all of the threads here concerning chips.

Do they really work and is there any downside to using these "superchips?"

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but I'm new to this stuff.

Thanks in advance,

- Mark

Ya, definetely worth it. I have a Superchips done by Sean Hyland and it works great. I have to run 91+ octane, but that seems to be beneficial anyways. It cleans the slop out of stuff like shifting (pretty firm shifts now) and you can feel the throttle response. I don't know about these portable tuners, but they seem better still. Look in the chips section here and read forever about all kinds.

superchips sucks some ***!! and yes there can be a downside if you mis-tune your vehicle. I have a 2002 Lightning and i had the 1715 model of superchips for the 97-03 f150 gas engine. I programmed the settings to pretty much everything midgrade and when i floored the gas and my supercharger boost would kick in, i would start to smell electrical smoke like something was burning up. So i switched to a diablo predator tuner and it has way sicker options with an overall way more detailed tune.

Go with a better tuner or chip like diablo or Jet performance if they make them for the regular f150's. Superchips is good for dodge trucks only if you ask me

I have an 04 Screw with the 4.6 and Use the SC Tuner 1714... Several thousand miles with it on the 91+ High Performance and absolutely no trouble at all. Biding my time and saving the money, plan on trying out the TP Tuned X cal very shortly! You can find a ~TON~ of threads on the Troyer Tuning. For every neg. comment I bet you can find 40 positive one's to out do it. It's simple..... You cant please everyone! but I was more than happy with the SC1714.

Good Luck!

I've heard good/bad about all the aftermarket tuners..... so whats that tell you?

Just check out the Tuner, Programmer Thread. They will tell you everything that you need to know. I would got with the superchip with the custom programming done by Mike Troyer.

i dont kno about the actual numbers but i have a 5.4 2000 with superchips along with true dual, volant 33" with only 3.55 ls in a 4x4 and i felt the differant when i added the tuner. shifting is night and day. like i said tho i dont kno acutally numbers but it livened up my mid rpms nicely and brought back some of the low that i lost with the true dual pips. i have tested the "raised top speed" a couple times .. yes the tuner takes care of it ha. if i had to spend the money again i would more then likely get the troyer tune which is a little more but i have heard only good about it. i did buy his efans which i have yet to install. if you want to hold off on the tuner for a while mine might be for sale with in the next month or so. i might step up to troyers tune. just let me know
