upgrading to 302??
upgrading to 302??
hey, i was just wondering if it is possible to swap a 4.6 281 with the 5.0 302?? Ive got a 97' F150 2wd. My buddys got the motor and he said he would just give it to me because it has been sittin around for a couple years so i know it might need some reconditoning. The only thing i know that is going to be a problem is the fact that it is carbuerated(spelling??) and that means that all my sensors and pretty much my whole computer goes out the window. If anyone has done this before please tell me how you did it because i am really considering this if it is possible. If it is not possible than does anyone know of any other engine upgrades i could do with my truck. Thanks.
I dont see why you would want to. Lots of wiring/computer crap that would be a PITA to figure out, plus, sticking in something like a 302 out of a truck would be a downgrade...A 4.6 will stick with/beat a 5.8 truck. Unless its some high HP 302 that you really want for all the power...but still, lots of time and a big hassle...

Shoot, anything is possible. I'd say only a 460 would be worth the hassle. Trannys a different bell housing for one.
But swappin a carb motor shouldnt be too bad as it only needs a few wires to run. Gettin your stock gauges to work could be tricky.

i wouldnt think that a 460 would fit in my truck. but ya this 302 is pretty tricked out. Its all bored out and its got a pretty decent cam in it, and a bunch of other stuff. Well if i dont end up going through with this than does anyone have any suggestions of some good HP upgrades for my truck.
