No, no, and no. If you aren't running modifications that require premium fuel, you aren't seeing any benefits or gains from running the expensive stuff.

It's always best to run the lowest octane fuel you can get away with.

running premium is better for your engine because the gas is alot cleaner and more purified, it doesnt provide any performance gain. its just better for your engine & provides less engine build-up

Not at all.

Premium fuel is simply higher octane. A higher octane means it burns more slowly which, in turn, allows higher compression ratios or a greater spark advance.

Despite BP/Amoco's advertising, premium fuel is in no way any "cleaner" or "better" than is a "regular" grade fuel unless the "regular" grade of fuel is deficent.

Certain engines can benefit from premium fuel. Other engines require premium fuel. However, the vast majority of engines were designed to run on "regular" fuel and there is no cost savings or performance to be gained by using a premium fuel when only "regular" is required.

Don't fall for the ad agencies' lines about the hype. Use your head and some common sense and follow the advice experts.

You wont save enough on your gas mileage vs. the cost of buying the higher grade fuel in the first place.

My 99 Grand Prix GTP recommended using premium fuel to prevent detonation. I did notice a performance difference between the different grades of fuels though. A lot more power to the car on the higher octane, a little more on the get up and go.

That is because it was tuned for premium. It needed to have premium to reach its desired operating levels.

Well, there are a lot of misconceptions as to what octane is on this post so here is a link to explain it as clear as I can. To sum it up, it will not provide more power in an engine designed to run on regular fuel, it will not give you better fuel mileage and in fact, normally, it will cause a decrease in fuel mileage as the flame front is slow to form, and it will cost more per mile to run. It is not cleaner although some fuel producers claim that their premium fuels contain more cleaning agents= advertizing hype. Use the recommended fuel for your engine and enjoy the ride. Got a chip or tuner? Then you probably can benefit some from the slower to ignite premium fuel.

It's been my experience that premium fuels used in vehicles that were designed to run lower octane tend to carbon up the chambers, piston tops, and occasionally foul spark plugs. Cleaner burning my ****!

Compression also plays a factor no? but up to what 9.5 to 1 to begin using 90 91 92 93 or 94 octane? Here in Illinois I thought I saw 94 octane but not sure.

Alls I know is I have to run premium with the chip I have. When filling up, you're only out another few dollars, roughly 10-11 cents a liter here in Canada. When I changed the plugs not long ago at roughly 150 000 km's, they looked great. It's probably doing a fine job of keeping things clean and that's fine by me.
