Found this posted on another website, but I had a question.
Instead of taking this whole thing out and cleaning it, Is it OK to just spray the contact cleaner right to it with it being in the airbox????

I just ordered some COP's and am thinking that I may not need them afterall, once I clean this MAF tomorrow.

No no. If you take the MAF off then you get a change of screwing up the wires. A $200 mistake. I always leave the MAF on and just spray it inside the airbox, let dry for 2 mins, and yoru done. I have always done it this way for many years and in 5 different cars, not one problem.

When done, should I notice a difference right away, or do I need to drive it for a while??
I just did this and sprayed it for about 6 seconds or so. Is there a rule of thumb?
And if this does not work, I am going to go ahead and replace coil 1. It had a misfire a few months ago, but nothing since. I think it is still doing it and it is not reading yet.
Your thoughts?

You can only clean 1 side with it on anyway
Don't touch the MAF just spray contact cleaner on it and let it dry. Its a pain to pull out and as far as I can tell nothing is gained by pulling it out and spraying it versus just spraying it where it is. I do this every time I change the air filter.
Ok, I have an 05. The MAF is located in the upper portion of the airbox toward the rear. If you remove the drop in filter, you can see it toward the back. Not sure you can get a spray can to spray that far and at that angle. Are some of you saying you prefer cleaninging this way rather than taking out 2 screws and unplugging it? I have never cleaned it and have 35,000 miles. I am thinking I might need to, just wanted to make sure of the better method. Thanks.

It takes a whole 2 minutes at the most to do it... Im not going to argue with anyone here, but its not hard at all to take out, and why leave that dirty stuff you get off the maf in the intake tube?

Just my $.02:
If it's woth doing,do it right.Be sure and use a cleaner that leaves no residue. Brake cleaner & carb cleaner leave a residue. CRC & Radio Shack have electronic/tuner cleaners that leave no residue.

I picked up a can of the spray cleaner from O'Rielly's and did the deed yesterday. It took all of 5 minutes to unplug the sensor and take out 2 screws. The wires looked clean at 35,000 miles but a gave a good spraying. It is probably my imagination, but it seems more responsive now.
