Higher amp alternator ?
Higher amp alternator ?
i have a 1991 F150 5.0L . When I shift from drive to nuetral and vise-versa. the motor almost dies and all my gauges shoot to the lowest position for a second. Is this my alternator? Idle control valve? I dont have a volt meter to test it.
I will be putting a plow, lights etc on and I know I need to get a better alternator. Whats my current alternator rated at? Where do I get a better one?? Thanks guys!

Prolly like mine at 72 amps. If your upgrading lights and such, I'd highly recommend a 3G swap. It's ford high amp 130-200 amp stock unit used in the 90s tauris's. You can get it from a junkyard or order a complete kit from www.fordfuelinjection.com Lots of details there about it too.
Something else is up though causing your bogging. Also on that site is how to run a self test to pull the codes. Post back with what ya find.

Go to a junkyard and look for a truck with a classIII tow hitch and light adapter, and probably the wider mirrors. Then it has the tow package, and also has a 130 amp alternator. From what I've heard it's pretty much plug and play with the stock.
