well goodbye truck, & welcome Explorer! My first ride was a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport. It had the 4.0L too, that thing sucked on fuel though, got worse mpg than my 5.4L does believe it or not, Never the less they are a good SUV and the 4.0L in them are tough ones!

Why only 2950 for the 97? The last time I looked at KBB.com my 97 showed around 5000 trade in value and around 9000 resale.

After nine years 'in the world', the range of value can be wide.
There are 97s out there worth way more than $2950 and there are others worth half that.

He didn't go into condition so, we don't know whether it was him or the dealer who left smiling.

You are correct. I only have a little over 65,000 miles on mine and when I look at the new trucks with a sticker price in the $30,000 + range I feel like I should keep in and drive the wheels off of it.

By 01 had Ford gone completely to the SOHC 4L or did they still offer the old pushrod 4L? I had a 97 Exp with the SOHC and it was an awesome truck, till that old bag ran the red light.
