My Cam Phaser pains
My Cam Phaser pains
Just bought an '04 f150 screw 5.43v fx4 little over a month ago .......from day one didn't think the engine sounded right so i take it to the dealer this past monday mechanic real quick says "phaser passenger side"which was the louder side so anyhow replace it under warranty in about a day tell me its all quiet i pick it up it's very quiet i'm like cool so drive ithome it warms up wouldn't you know it the driver side is doing same thing i call them tell them ......... and of course they can't look at it til monday... why wouldn't they just change both???? frustrating
Under warranty, if it ain't broke, they can't fix it. Yes, it would have been easier to replace both at the same time, but this raises the dealership's number of warranty repairs, which in extreme cases can result in an audit from Ford - and audits are very bad news for dealers. Hope they get your truck squared away ASAP in any case.
The bad thing is i have a feeling the dealer is gonna act like nothings wrong i told them today the motor has to be warmed up before it makes noise he told me they drove it up the road and back i told him that wasn't enough. Guess i'll see monday.
Did they tell you the driver side might get louder also? If not, huh, guess they didn't think it would happen. But yeah their parts are limited, if thats just your truck then their probably isn't any re-calls for it either.
Yeah taking it in tomorrow i noticed that when your going through drive-thru against wall it's most noticeable...... just a rough sound like a diesel sound like someone elso on this forum has said before.... i know it's not right cause i have friends with 5.4 3vs that are very quiet. It gets old hearing "that thing don't sound right" anyhow i'll find something out tomorrow.
I'm about to sign the papers to a used 2004 f150 5.4 crew... Beautiful truck.. fully loaded... but When I first looked at the truck I noticed the ticking noise... I figured.. maybe it needs some high octane and such... After taking the truck home and really checking it out.. I really began to describe the noise as a "diesle sound" as everyone else has describe it on here. Mainly heard at idle... but more noticable around 1100 rpms but not at higher rpms.. Anyways.. I had the dealer take it to the local Ford dealership for a check up and the guys said something about sprokets and such..something to do with the cam... In which.. I'm guessing their talking about the cam phasers. I'm guessing this noise didn't just start.. so I was wondering.. I'm pretty sure that my extended coverage would cover the fix... but my question is.... Do you guys think that if this problem has been going on for some time now... has it affected anything else.. or is it probably ok?? I'm mainly concerned about my extended coverage.. I'm purchasing a Mercury Insurence 24000 mile extended coverage. Someone said there may be a problem with that particular problem because of gaskets being involved... but I'm thinking... "how could that be so.. Mercury wouldn't be able to cover anything on the engine if that were so.. the motor is covered in gaskets" Much advice would be very apprieciated.. Thanks

My guess (and I believe someone else mentioned this also), is that the dealer would need to verify the problem on both sides before they go in and fix both sides.
Or they simply ran out of time and wanted to close out your work order quickly so that they can move on to the more profitable jobs.
