engine "ticking"

i currently have an 04 screw and i noticed that i have a ticking, which sounds like a valve ticking, when it is idling. i don't have any noticeable loss in power once the rpm's are up. any comments or discussion? for the record i had and 01 supercab that sounded the same. if anyone else has experienced this, let me know. typically i would be concerned but since my 01 did the same thing i am kinda playing it off. let me know.... tony in pa

Can you hear it with the hood closed or only when it is open? could be injector solenoids clicking that you hear, maybe broke exhaust stud, wrong oil causing oiling issues.

I was told that this was common with these motors if you don't use synthetic oil. A guy at the local quick lube place said he's heard the ticking alot in these trucks and the recommended oil in the manual cleared it up.

I just bought a 02 supercrew Lariet and am experiencing the exact same sounds. I just read some of the other posts and am going to change the oil this week to the synthetic and see if that stops it. I am/was afraid it was the valves clicking or an exhaust leak, but I sure hope it will stop with the other oil??

Hey just a long shot but maybe it's a bad spark plug wire? Maybe hmm try the old reliable spray a little water around (a cold motor) start it up ( make sure it's night, dark as possible) start er up look around for the fourth of july around your wires Or RUN
